The Public Lab Store Starter kits for DIY environmental science

"Point and Shoot" Infrared Plant Cam - No Assembly Required

Public Lab is striving to develop methods for low cost multispectral imaging. Our Point and Shoot Plant Cam comes pre-assembled and ready to photograph, set to take photos at five second intervals once turned on (this can be changed either in the firmware or by adjusting the mode).

If you're uncomfortable disassembling a digital camera to extract an old lens and install a new one, this might be the option for you. If you're on a budget, or not afraid of getting into hardware, you might want to look into our IR Lens + Plant Cam combination here:

If, however, you're comfortable following the steps to remove the lens (the steps entail removing a pair of miniature screws to open the case, and then another pair to dislodge the lens. Finally, an allen wrench (provided) loosens the lens so that it can be removed. You can place the IR lens into its place and then close everything back up), then you might want to see our plant cam with lens

Community Science Forum: Frac Sand

Our quarterly print publication has a new name, and a wider scope. It's now called the Community Science Forum. This issue is focused on frac sand, and in particular on the work being done in western Wisconsin by community groups concerned about air and water quality impacts of mining operations there.

Usually $5, we're offering the new issue at an experimental price of $2 plus shipping.
